Olympic Fashion

It has been ages since I have posted a blog...... so I thought I had better get back into the habit.  Last night we watched the opening ceremonies for the Winter Olympics in Sochi.  It was really entertaining.  One of my favorite parts is watching to see how the different nations will dress their athletes for the Parade of Nations.

A few of my favorites from the past include:

USA team at the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics.  Remember how awesome we thought those berets were?

Russia at the Salt Lake opening ceremony.  Long wool coats trimmed with black fur, and those hats and muffs!  How classy!

Now on to 2014.  This is what the host country, Russia, wore:

Beautiful long coats in their national colors, trimmed with white fur.

And here's Canada!  Don't they look traditional and proud in red wool Hudson coats?

And finally, team USA:

Um....
I read one review that said the sweaters were "rejects from Grandpa's closet."  They were designed by Ralph Lauren, who has designed quite a few things I like better.

Here are some winter fashions you can find around the Barnes household:

Jeff, dressed for work in his wool camouflage DNR coat, paired with his beige and hunter green uniform.
Penny is wearing her shiny black coat as always.

Katie is dressed for church in a vintage Rothschild red wool coat with black accents.

I have to agree with the Russians, you can't go wrong with a classic wool coat and fur collar.

And yes, Penny had to be in that picture too.

Today we went to an ice fishing derby, and I had to laugh.  All my critiquing of the Olympic fashions, and what do you really see Americans wearing in the winter?  Well, here in Iowa they wear a lot of camo and Carhartts, and nothing fits right.

So whatever you are doing this winter, have fun.
